It was raining, and it was a rivalry game for the Demon and Panther Alums, but unfortunately for Washington, they had a few too many turnovers.

Washington lost their first every alumni football game by a 21-20 score, but they had their chances.

In the first quarter, it was the Demons who started with the ball, but could not score. Mt. Pleasant just beat the middle of the line until it was an easy five yard dive in from Jordan Cotton for the touchdown and the 7-0 lead.

Washington’s offense ran a little better the next time out, holding possession and scoring off a six yard dive from Tanner Knupp, but they missed the extra point and kept the Demons trailing 7-6. Washington scored again after an interception as they pulled the quarterback keeper with Joe Hoeback with 2:47 left in the half, and then a two point conversion gave the Demons a 14-7 lead at half.

In the second half, the Demons had a couple of players run into each other on the fair catch, and the Panthers recovered, turning it into a two yard dive for a touchdown and the 14-14 tie. Washington needed some fireworks and got it from Landon Coker who took a kick return 90 yards down field for the score, but another missed PAT put the Demons up 20-14. Another drive by the Panthers midway through the fourth put them up 21-20 and they held it.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Demon were threatening. On the 10 yard line, a pass over the middle just fell incomplete for a touchdown, and then the very next play a botched hand-off resulted in a fumble, and the Panthers covered up. The Demons got the ball back with under two to play, but it was not to be as the Hail Mary attempts weren’t falling and the Panthers stole the victory.

At the end of the game both teams had players of the game, for Washington the offensive MVP was Tanner Knupp, and for defense it was Travis Brown.
