Michael Moore of Washington is the Republican nominee for Iowa Senate District 39 after receiving 49% of the vote. KCII News contacted the Iowa Secretary of State’s office after noticing discrepancies on its results website Wednesday morning. The state’s website was only reporting results from Johnson County, where Bob Anderson led, and not the entire district, which also includes Washington and Keokuk counties. With full results in, Moore had 1,444 votes, Anderson received 955 votes and Royce Phillips had 530 votes.

Moore shares he was nervous as early returns from Johnson County came in, which had him down by as many as 300 votes. Late Tuesday night he felt confident he would win the race when the votes hit the even point, as Washington and Keokuk county votes continued to be reported. Moore will face Democrat Kevin Kinney in November’s general election.
