The Washington Demon softball team plays their second doubleheader of the season tonight when they take on ranked conference for Fairfield.
The Demons split a double header earlier in the week when they face Ft. Madison, as Washington still struggles to get their whole varsity team in one place at the same time.
The Demons come in 2-2, and are led by the hot bats of Ashley Rausch and Chayse Jaspering, both hitting .455 at the plate. The Demons have three other players hitting over .400, including freshmen Morgan Brinning and Jesse Buchholz, and power hitter Grace Redlinger. In the circle, Ashley Rausch has been outstanding in her first three outings with 24 total strikeouts and just one earned run in 16 innings pitched. Amber Linnenkamp has thrown one game and gave up three earned runs in seven full innings.
Fairifield comes in ranked No. 14 in the state with a 3-1 record, and coming off two big wins over Davis County in which they won by a combined score 27-4.
The Trojans top bat comes from Brynna Bowman with a .583 average, and Madison Roberts with a .500 average. Karly Williams also has a mean swing that puts her in the RBI lead on the team with five. In the circle, Alli Deao gets the nod with a 1-1 record and a 1.27 ERA with 10 strikeouts, but freshmen Haley Beard is 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA and six strikeouts.
Demon head coach Angie Shrader says Fairfield is a good team, and that both teams will to convert on errors.
“Obviously with Fairfield we’ve had moments down there where we have had huge leads and we’ve let it slip out of our fingers, and we’ve had extra inning games with them, so it’s going to definitely be a battler, and it is going to be whoever plays for seven innings and makes the least amount of mistakes, because if someone makes a mistake, there is going to be one team that takes advantage of it for sure,” Shrader said.
