The #4 Mid-Prairie boys soccer team had no trouble dispatching upset minded Chariton Thursday night in Wellman. The Golden Hawks took control early and rolled to a 7-0 win over the visiting Chargers. All stater Austin Errthum got the scoring underway in the 15th minute with a direct kick goal from 25 yards out. Seven minutes later Dayton Hall finished from inside the box to double the Mid-Prairie lead and in the 24th minute Nick Stimson knocked home a ball deflected by the Charger keeper to make the score 3-0 going to the break.

The second half was more of the same as Mid-Prairie continued to keep the pressure on Chariton. In the 50th minute the Chargers helped the Golden Hawks out by scoring an own goal to make it 4-0. Errthum made it 5-0 Golden Hawks with his second tally of the night in the 54th minute. One minute later Dustin Yoder moved up to forward from his defensive back spot and found the back of the net to make it 6-0. Jarrett Truitt scored the first varsity goal of his career in the 70th minute to make it 7-0. After the game Head Coach Pat Cady talked about his team’s patience with possession and aggression in the right spots.

“160 minutes, that is how hard these guys have to play to get to Des Moines,” Cady said. “We’ve been working on movement in the box, and when we first started the game, we were kind of slow in our movement, but as the game progressed, it was starting to get quicker. Wall passing, the 1-2’s, the crossing runs, we had a lot of shot opportunities, we needed to get everything within the keepers reach, because we felt that he wasn’t really clean on his first touch of the ball, and any time you keep the ball in play and if it is a keeper deflection we should have somebody there to clean it up, so when we’re not putting the ball on frame and we fly it out after all of that hard work, then we’re not giving ourselves that second chance at a goal.”

With the win Mid-Prairie is now 14-2 overall and will face #9 Albia on Saturday at noon. The Blue Demons were a 7-1 winner over Williamsburg. The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the state tournament in Des Moines.
