While the group spearheading the effort to restore the Bunker Mill Bridge waits for more funding, they’re using the time to cleanup the area around the bridge. Executive Director of Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge, Julie Bowers, says they’ve made a lot of progress, but the cleanup effort is ongoing.
She explains their current focus is on the north side of the bridge, where they’re working to get rid of some of the noxious weeds.
The area around the bridge will eventually be turned into a park, but Bowers says with liability insurance in place, it’s already being used as one. They’re seeking picnic tables at the moment, and have plans for a river access and landscaping.
