The Mid-Prairie girls golf team closed out the regular season in impressive fashion Wednesday night winning a River Valley Conference quadrangular at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside. The Golden Hawks won the team race with a total score of 198. West Liberty was second with a 207, West Branch checked in with a 218 and Wilton ended with a 231. Mid-Prairie was led by meet medalist Allyson Wertz with her round of 46. The Golden Hawks also had the medalist runner up in Sydney Scarff with her 48. After the meet Wertz and Scarff talked about the keys to their rounds.

“I didn’t start off very well, but then I had two birdies in a row and that kind of set the tone for the rest of the round,” Wertz said. “I didn’t start off well either, but then it picked up,” Scarff added.

Other scores for Mid-Prairie included Courtney Cayton at 51, Laura Yoder at 53, Mick Van Winkle with 59 and Olivia Nisly at 66. Following the meet Mid-Prairie Head Coach Tracy McArtor talked about his teams progress throughout the line up.

“It was nice to see Sydney come back, she was really getting down on herself these last couple of meets, had not turned in scores that she thought she was capable of doing, so for her to break 50 tonight is a big confidence boost for her, and I’m glad that happened,” McArtor said. “Allyson had back to back birdies on a couple of holes after starting off with a triple so I think that really helped her jump start the rest of her round. Courtney, just keep plugging along like Courtney does and we’ll keep throwing those scores in there. Good job by all of the girls tonight.”

Mid-Prairie will next be in action Monday in the River Valley Conference meet at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course.
