The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team fell short of getting redemption over West Liberty on Monday.

The first half ended in a stalemate that would lead to an exciting second half. The Comets put the pressure on the Golden hawks as they scored two goals back-to-back to go up 2-0 within five minutes of each other.

Down two, Mid-Prairie stepped up the pressure, and got a header goal from Austin Errthum from a Dustin Yoder free kick. Mid-Prairie continued the pressure with time running out, and it was Errthum again, as he put a free kick past the Comet wall and past the goalie to tie it up at two, and the game went into the first overtime.

No one scored in the first overtime, despite some quality chances by Mid-Prairie, but in the second overtime, it was West Liberty to put an end to the comeback. The Comets moved the ball up the field with two minutes left and found a way to sink the shot to get the win.

With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 6-2 on the year, with both loses coming from West Liberty in overtime. The Golden Hawks will look to rebound against Monticello on Thursday.
