The IMS soccer team is ready to get going this season, and will kick off their season on April 3rd against Wapello.
IMS brings back some quality players to the team, including Reggie Hostetler, the leading scorer last year, had 19 goals and four assists. Enrique Sanchez is another scorer coming back, he had nine goals and eight assists last year.
The question mark for IMS is who they will put in goal, as their most experienced goalie graduated, and the next in line is Hostetler, but they can’t give up his offense. Chances are they will go with Jorey Conrad. As a Freshmen last year, he played 71 minutes, had six shots against him and let one in.
Head coach Marcus Miller says despite the low numbers of veterans, he thinks the team chemistry this year is great.
“This year overall it just seems like we have better team chemistry than we did last year, that was something we struggled with last year. The kids seem to enjoy being around each other, and working hard,” Miller said. “Things that we will need to continue working hard on all year are ball handling ad ball control, we’ve never been a physically dominant team, so we have to rely on our speed, finesse and control.”
IMS starts their season on April 3rd with Wapello, and then will move on to play Highland, and then Mediapolis.
The SEISC tournament starts May 16th, and sub-state will start for IMS on May 27th.
