The state wrestling meet is underway, and 2A day one is in the book.

Washington got Fletcher Green through to the winners bracket, with his victory over Chase Lienhard 7-1.

Andrew Waite and Kyle Anderson both lost their first round matches, but won their consolation matches to move on to tomorrow. Tristan Pohren and Brad Skubal both dropped their first round matches as well, by just one point, with Pohren losing 6-5 and Skubal losing 2-1. Both won their consolation matches to move on to the next day.

Demon head coach Brent VanWeelden said despite the losses, it was a good day.

Mid-Prairie’s Phirom Peterschmidt defeated Trenton Wells 8-4 to move on in the winners bracket.

Columbus Junction saw Josh Keller win his first match over Zack Snyder by a fall, and Kyle Davis won his first round match over Quintin Taylor by sudden victory. Mark Ramierz dropped his first match at 220, but won his consolation match against Taylor Christensen 10-3.
