The Washington Demon girls basketball team went down to Keokuk and got a low scoring win over the Chiefs in a conference game.

The Demons started slow once again, trailing 12-5 after one and 19-9 at the half, but Washington came out fighting and fired up in the second half. The Demons outscored Keokuk 23-11 in the second half to win 32-30.

Demon head coach Phil Long said it was a big confidence boosting win, and that his team is playing to get ready for the postseason.

“We’re playing for tournament time now, there was a big crowd down there, and that is a wonderful gym to play in, one of the nicest in Southeast or Eastern Iowa, and to come out there with that one, I think our kids will build on that, and we will not miss that many two-footers come Friday night down in Mt. Pleasant, and the Ft. Madison comes here, and we need to avenge a loss that actually took us out of the conference race,” Long said. “Everything is almost like one and done for us now. We’ve got a lot to prove to those two teams, as well as to ourselves, as well as prepare for Fairfield in the first round of the tournament.”

Washington was led by Amber Salow with 14 points, thanks to three three-pointers, and Grace Redlinger added eight.

Washington is back in action on Friday when they travel to Mt. Pleasant.
