More sand and salt has been used by the Washington County Roads Department so far this winter than most year’s, according to J.P. VanSickle, Washington County Maintenance Superintendent. He estimates that the county still has 1,000 tons left, approximately half of what the department started with. VanSickle adds that gravel roads are in good shape because they have frozen and stayed frozen. The snow storms have caused the department’s staff to work outside of normal hours, which will impact their budget.
