Public Health officials have yet to be notified how much funding will be available at the federal level for WIC, Women Infants Children. Washington County Public Health Director Danielle Pettit-Majewski states that legislators were supposed to come to a decision in mid-December. As of November, the department was able to print vouchers for the program through February, which will help area families until next month.
As of October, WIC serves 271 families in Washington County and on average, each family receives a voucher valued at $55 a month. The vouchers can only be used to for certain products, such as baby formula, milk and whole grain cereal.
