The Lady Wolves of Winfield-Mt. Union have been a team possessed this season posting a 6-1 mark, losing only to 3A Mediapolis.

However, WMU has only played three teams in the top half of the conference. Aside from the Mediapolis loss, they defeated Highland and Wapello, each by five points or less.

WMU starts off the second half with IMS, out of conference opponents New London and the team they share second place with, Pekin on January 7th.

The Wolves have a 7.8 point difference over their opponents and spread the scoring out through the whole game.

WMU head coach Mich Wachs said the first three games back will be a challenge that his team is ready for.

“Playing IMS who [Keeps getting] better the last two or three years, I think they are well coached and play scrappy defense, and then we have New London on Saturday who is 4-2 also, and then Pekin who’s off to a great start as well, so all three schools we have in the opening stretch have winning records in the first half of the season, so we’re going to have to make sure that we have our things in order and be ready for the challenge that waits us when we come back,” Wachs said.

WMU opens up play in the second half with a road trip to IMS on Friday.
