Area schools are out for the holiday, which means sports teams are taking a break as well, here are the standings from the first half of the season in the South Iowa Cedar League for the boys.
Keota and BGM lead the way, undefeated at 5-0 in league play this season.
Koeta head coach Dan Stout said his team is doing well for a lot of reasons, but tradition and team unity is a big reason.
“I think some of that in part is the traditions we’ve had over here the last few years of teams being very successful here, and our seniors, Luke Lyle, Kolton Greiner, Justin Hultman, Derek Berg and Shane Gibson, they’ve played basketball together since third or fourth grade, they’ve been traveling to tournaments and doing all of that stuff and just the bond that they have together,” Stout said.
In second is Montezuma at 5-1, third place is Lynnville-Sully at 4-2, along with Iowa Valley at 3-2 and North Mahaska at 3-2.
Fourth place is Belle Plain at 2-3, area school Sigourney sits in fifth place at 2-5 this season. HLV and Tri-County are tied for sixth place, with HLV at 1-4 and Tri-County at 1-3 and English Valleys is bringing up the bottom with an 0-5 record.
Play resumes for most of these teams on January 3rd.
