Game Preview

Quick Look: Undefeated is the name of the game tonight. Both teams are perfect on the early season, but Williamsburg is state ranked, and has already beat 4A ranked Mt. Pleasant this season.

About the Demons: Washington has looked to 2013-’14 starting point guard Dema Giardino to pick up the scoring for the graduated seniors, and she has stepped in nicely, leading the Demons with 17 points against the Golden Hawks on their way to a 54-44 win. The Demons found themselves in serious foul trouble though this week, losing then second leading scorer Grace Redlinger to fouls and being held scoreless in the game. Washington set a record for number of free throws shot in the game, but still need to convert on more, going 29-49 in the game.

Stat Leaders (Washington): Dema Giardino 16 ppg, Stephanie Fishback 11.5 ppg, Grace Redlinger 9.0 ppg.

Quotable: “I think quite honestly if we can hold [Greiner] somewhere in that 15-17 category and stop the rest of them from getting more than 30 as a total and keep it in that 45-47 [point total] then we have a chance to win. I’ve always said the first team to 50 is always the team that win, and as bad as the scoring has been in Southeast Iowa the last couple of years, I’m not so sure 40 isn’t the new number.” – Demon head coach Phil Long

About the Raiders: The early part of the season has been good to No. 7 in 3A Williamsburg. Winning their first three games, beating No. 9 in 4A Mt. Pleasant and averageing 53 points per game thus far. The Raiders return heavily recruited Paige Greiner for her senior season, along with four other starters for the Raiders. Williamsburg only lost one top scorer in Lindsay Schlabaugh to graduation, while the rest have returned to round out the team around Greiner.
