The grand opening of a museum in Louisa County is expected on the 6th anniversary of flooding that hit the area.
According to State Archaeologist John Doershuk, the museum will feature Native American artifacts found at a site north of Oakville. The artifacts were found after the 2008 floods during the construction of a new levee. The museum will also tie-in the city’s history and recovery from that flooding. If things go as planned, the museum will be unveiled on June 14th.
Doershuk says during their archaeological investigation, they learned that before the arrival of Europeans, the area was home to a settlement of Native Americans roughly the size of present-day Oakville.
