This past August was the driest month Washington has experienced since records began being kept 136 years ago. According to State Climatologist, Harry Hillaker, August 2013 saw only .15 inches of rain, breaking the previous record set in 1901 at .24. He says places like Burlington, Mt Pleasant and Fort Madison broke their records for driest month as well, recording only trace amounts of rain.
