While it rarely needs to be enforced, Kalona residents are reminded of the city’s rules on lawns. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says if someone’s grass is too long, they’ll talk to the property owner in person, and if progress isn’t made they’ll send a letter. If that doesn’t work, city staff will mow the lawn and bill the homeowner. Schlabaugh says its $100 per mowing.
