Pekin schools did not hold class yesterday due to a power outage; the elementary and junior high will not have classes today however, the high school is holding classes.Justin Foss with Alliant Energy explains that it is believed at this time that debris struck two wires near the school, grounding them out which caused the transformer at the school to short circuit because it was not getting all of the power that it needs. Crews are currently working to fix power in that area and three, possibly four, transformers need to be replaced as well as some underground wiring.
