In a battle of area teams on the soccer pitch Thursday night, the Mid-Prairie boys shut out Highland by a 3-0 score.
Austin Errthum got the scoring going early with an unassisted goal. Mid-Prairie took control of the match with a flurry in the final 10 minutes before halftime with two goals, one in the 31st minute from Heath Shintler, and Errthum’s second coming in the 37th minute.
After the match Mid-Prairie Head Coach Pat Cady talked about how important the sequence was at the end of the first half.
“We seem to come out the first 20, 25 minutes and we didn’t really like that style of play, the last 10 minutes we looked really good, guys were linking passes, we were making runs, people were dropping back and covering for the guys that were making runs, you know we picked up two goals there toward the last 10 minutes of the first half and everything was clicking, and that is the way we need to play soccer,” Cady said.
The second half was a defensive stalemate with neither team finding the back of the net though the Mid-Prairie offense still produced several quality chances. With the win the Golden Hawks are now 6-2-1 on the year and will be in action Monday against Keokuk. Highland falls to 3-7 on the year.
