Twelve area high school seniors are of the 438 across Iowa who will be honored at the Eleventh Annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony, held at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines on April 28th. Local seniors selected are:
Megan Pretz of Columbus Community,
Matthew Eden of Riverside,
Namoi Miller of IMS,
Alex Sieren of Keota,
Kimberly Yedlik of Lone Tree,
Madeline Gent of Mid-Prairie,
Graham Wittrock of Pekin,
David Wehr of Sigourney,
Klinton Garrett of WACO,
Emma Kroeger of Wapello,
Samantha Ellingson of Washington
and Alicia Escher of Winfield-Mt. Union.
The seniors that are being honored were selected by their high schools as the highest academic achievers and each student’s most influential teacher will also receive a certificate of appreciation. Over 99-percent of those honored participate in school activities, with approximately 80-percent participating in at least one interscholastic sport; more than 60-percent plan to pursue their post-secondary education in Iowa.
