An excavator and a Toyota Corolla collided Thursday afternoon near Riverside, resulting in one death. An excavator operated by Robert Zimmerman of Iowa City and a Toyota Corolla driven by  84-year-old James H. Horsey of Farmington collided on Highway 22 at Vine Avenue. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Horsey was westbound on Highway 22 and Zimmerman had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection but failed to yield for the Corolla. The Corolla then struck the front left side of the excavator and rolled and came to rest on its top on Highway 22.

Horsey died as a result of the crash.

Riverside Fire and Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Washington County EMS and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and charges will be decided at the conclusion of the investigation.
