For 28 of the 32 minutes Thursday night at Highland High School the Highland boys basketball team played even with Mediapolis. However, during a four minute stretch of the second quarter the Bulldogs went on a 13-2 run that was the difference in a 58-49 Mediapolis win. Both teams came out red hot from the field and the game was tied at 19 after one. In the second quarter Highland scored just four total points and trailed 33-23 going to the locker room. After the game Head Coach Marcus Hall talked about that important stretch

“We kind of went on a drought ourselves offensively, during the middle part of the second quarter, we were right there,” Hall said. “Some of it was we didn’t execute as well as we did in the first quarter, but then some of it is we didn’t make shots and sometimes you can’t control the ball going into the basket, and I thought Jake Hootman started off early controlling the pace a little bit, we were able to turn them over a little bit, but then they started figuring out our three quarter court press, and we didn’t rebound out of the zone as well as we would have liked.”

In the second half Highland closed the gap to four several times but the Huskies were unable to get over the hump despite several good looks from the floor. The Huskies were led by Jake Hootman’s 25 points and 10 rebounds. Talon McFarland also had 10 for Highland. The Huskies are now 13-6 on the season and will take on undefeated Lone Tree Tuesday.
