Our first winter storm passed through the area Thursday and continued to cause problems yesterday. The City of Washington received over an inch of rain the night before and another inch in the morning hours leading up to the 4 inches of snow that accumulated in the late morning, early afternoon Thursday.

A tow ban was put into effect by the State Patrol due to the unsafe blizzard conditions; crews began to remove vehicles from ditches once it was lifted yesterday morning.

Drifting was reported and roads were 100% covered when state, county and city plows went out for post-storm cleanup yesterday. Snow has been cleared from roads, but Washington County Maintenance Supervisor JP Van Sickle warns that there are still plenty of slick spots.
