The Washington Demons beat WACO last night in three sets.

The Demons won the first set 25 -12, but set two WACO came back from being seven point down to make it a close game at the end, but Washington found their stride and won set two 25-23 and set three 25-11.

Demon head coach Jeff Spenner talked after the match about the match and set two.

“I thought it was a really good night for us, overall I told the girls we needed to work on our defense and transitioning, and overall I thought we did a great job of that tonight, getting ready for tomorrow night against Fairfield,” Spenner said. “That second game I thought WACO played a great game with us, they hit really well, they passed, and I think we were just more aggressive in the first and third games, which took them way out of offensive, and overall a really great night and a great win.”

Sam Ellingson was a perfect 10-10 serving with three aces and 15 digs, Stephanie Fishback had 13 kills and Lauren Kimball had 25 assists.

Tonight the Demons host conference opponent and No. 11 Fairfield.

The Trojans are 18-7 with 10.17 kills per set and 2.27 blocks per set.

The Demons had 8.14 kills per set prior to the WACO game.

Spenner says they are beatable, as Washington lost 3-1 to Fairfield in their first meeting.

“It’s serve receiver and defensive transition,” Spenner said. “If we do that, they have some really great hitters who control the ball and place it, we have to be able to read that and run offense back at them. We showed when we were down there that we can beat them, we beat them a game, we just have to be more consistent and come out and show them we can do it a whole match.”

Washington and Fairfield have first serve tonight at 7:30 in Washington.
