An event to celebrate the right to read has been scheduled at the Washington Public Library.  Debbie Stanton with the Library says the point of Banned Book Week is to remind everyone of the freedom of information and the freedom to read.

It’s a project sponsored by the American Library Association that promotes the awareness of books that have been challenged through the years to be accepted into libraries.

Stanton says some of the classics banned in the past were ­Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  She adds having a focus like this gets conversations happening in the community to talk about the freedom to read and what it means to them.
