The Winfield- Mt. Union volleyball team traveled to Wilton this weekend for a tournament, and came out with second place.
The Wolves started the tournament with a three set loss to Durant. WMU won the first set 22-20, but dropped set two 21-11, and set three 15-12.
The Wolves won the rest of the way and never looked back, beating Mt. Pleasant 21-19 in both sets, Wilton 21-19 and 21-10, they lost set one to IMS 23-21, and then won the next two 22-20, 15-10 and then won their last match 21-9, 21-13 over Midland.
Three players had 24 kills or more on the weekend, including Erica Robinson with 29, Shelby Therme with 28 and Alicia Escher with 24.
Katie Benson had 70 assists on the weekend, while three players had 32 digs or more including Anna Crawford, Escher and Therme.
Head coach Dave Pieart says he thinks the tournament went really well, and that his team looks ready for the tough week ahead.
“We had three players in the 24 or more kill range, so our offense is sort of diversified,” Pieart said. “We’ve been aiming for this week here for awhile, we have two of our toughest conference opponents here Tuesday and Thursday, so we’ve been trying to get ourselves to jell by this time, and so far it’s working.”
WMU is now 10-3 overall, and play IMS tomorrow.
