A Mt. Pleasant man has been sentenced after his involvement in marijuana production. 45 year-old Richard Westmoreland Mathias has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for conspiring to manufacture at least 100 marijuana plants and for possessing with the intent to distribute marijuana according to US Attorney Nicholas A. Kleinfeldt.
Mathias has also been ordered to four years of supervised release following his imprisonment. Police investigation shows Mathias grew marijuana plants at his residence and at an additional property along with selling the drug out of his home.
During a search at Mathias’ residence on May 11, 2011, law enforcement seized 277 marijuana plants located in the backyard along with food and watering devices. This case was investigated by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
