The most recent drought information from the National Climatic Data Center shows extreme drought conditions in parts of southeast Iowa. After receiving little to no rainfall in addition to temperatures around 100 degrees in the last week, southeast Iowa is now classified as being moderately to extremely dry. These extremely dry conditions cover parts of Henry, Jefferson, Iowa and Johnson Counties.
Relief from the dryness is not expected to arrive any time soon as the drought is forecasted to remain or get worse through October. KCII will continue to monitor the drought conditions across southeast Iowa.
