The Washington Demons will have their hands full this evening when they play in the district final in Oskaloosa tonight for baseball.

The Demons, who were 7-2 winners over Fairfield in game one, will play against a 26-5 Grinnell team who beat Oskaloosa 3-2.

No. 2 Grinnell has a team batting average of .305 and an on base percentage of .406. The team is led by their pitching staff, who has a combined ERA of 2.09 and has opponents hitting just .175.

The 19-14 Demons have better offensive numbers with a .319 batting average and .419 on base percentage, but their team ERA is almost double Grinnell’s at an even 4.00 and opponents are hitting 53 points better at .228.

Colin Steele will be the starting pitcher for the Demons, he has a 4.43 ERA and opponents are hitting .261 off of him.

Head coach Nathan Miller says a key to tonight’s game is getting runs on the board quickly, to eliminate the small ball of Grinnell.

“I’d like to start out a little quick here tonight,I’d like to get a couple of runs on the board, if we get a couple runs on the board that might take them out of their small ball game, and it might force them to swing a little bit more than bunt runners into scoring position,” Miller said. “I think scoring early is going to be a key to the game, and then it’s the normal things we go to, play defense and pitch.”
