The Washington Demons play their first sub-state playoff game tonight in Oskaloosa against a team that the Demons could not figure out completely in the regular season, Fairfield.

The Demons lost three to Fairfield during the regular season, splitting with them the second time they saw them in the schedule in Fairfield.

The Demons are 19-14, hitting .319 and have a .419 on base percentage.

Jared Henry will be on the mound for the Demons, he has an ERA of 2.66 and opponents are hitting
.217 off of him.

Head coach Nathan Miller had this to say about Henry.

“He’s done a nice job for us, he has been one of our two main work horses this year with Colin Steele,” Miller said. “We’ve got those two and Elijah Wood that we are going to focus on for this game, and then we will see from there.”

Fairfield is 16-19-1 with just a .262 batting average and an on base percentage under .400. Their team ERA is a 2.96 and opponents are hitting .253 off of them.

Miller says it is a new season with the playoffs, but the Demons will need to remember some of the scouting on Fairfield to make sure they play them effectively, but also worry about making sure they are making the routine plays.

“I think it is going to come down to throwing strikes and making plays on defense,” Miller said. “Because both teams have the capability to score runs, and it’s just going to be which pitcher can maintain control and which defense can hold their poise and make routine plays.”
