The No. 10 Washington Demon Softball team took a win home last night in Mt. Pleasant in game one of the doubleheader.
The Demon’s bats and pitching were all working in the 10-3 win in seven innings.
The Panthers led of the scoring with a triple in the first and eventually scoring, but the Demon’s started off their scoring in the second inning and didn’t look back with a lead-off double by Ashley Rausch, a triple by Stephanie Fishback, her first of two on the night, a sacrifice out by Grace Redlinger and a big home run to right field by Maddie Bohr, her first of the year.
The Demon’s continued their Dominance as they put two more across the plate in the fourth off three more hits and then a big five run sixth inning lead off by a Redlinger home run finished the scoring in the game.
The home run came at a price though, as Redlinger’s ball which was about five feet above the fence hit a light pole and bounced back into play. The umpires did not signal the home run and the Panthers continued play creating a play at third that did not matter.
Redlinger ended up sliding into third and spraining her ankle according to head coach Angie Shrader. Redlinger managed to make it home under her own power, but had ice after the game.
Shrader said Redlinger did not return in the second game, and will be a game time decision next week.
Rausch pitched all seven innings of the game, with eight strikeouts, two walks, five hits allowed three runs with just two earned. The Demons also won game two, 14-2 in five innings. So far this year the Demons have only scored less than 10 runs in two out of their 12 games.
Shrader says it is because of the off season work.
“Our kids get production because they are swinging the bat well, and because they spent a lot of time in the off-season and in the hitting facility,” Shrader said. “All of them seem to be hitting the ball well and hitting the ball very hard, and I think a lot of it is just our kids in general, they are athletic, they are softball minded kids, and they love the game of softball so they put the time and effort in.”
The Demons will play a tournament in Fairfield today and tomorrow.
