The IMS baseball team continued their stellar play in close games Monday night defeated #11 Don Bosco 7-6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. The one run game marked the fourth of the season that IMS has participated in and the third that they have won. IMS opened the game hot taking a 2-0 lead in the first on two of Don Bosco’s six errors in the game. Don Bosco would tie it with two of their own in the second and take the lead with three in the third off of IMS starter Cameron Gingerich.

IMS mounted their charge in the fifth inning, where they posted five runs on four hits and four Don Bosco Errors with Zeke Nebel and Tanner Leyden each driving in a run. Don Bosco would cut the IMS lead to one with a tally in the sixth, and would get the tying run on in the final frame before Gingerich slammed the door. Head Coach Danny Hershberger spoke after the game about his team’s great performance early in the year in one run games.

“I think we do have a lot more confidence now after these close games. I think that it will help us in the long run, having these one run games where we come out ahead. The guys had a lot of confidence last night and hopefully that continues for us.”

Gingerich posted the win for IMS going all seven, allowing six runs, three of them earned on 11 hits striking out 11. At the plate IMS smacked 15 hits led by Gingerich who was three for four with two runs scored. With the win IMS is 4-1 on the season and is action tonight at L-M. The loss was the first on the season for the #11 ranked Dons.
