April unemployment figures released by the Iowa Workforce Development continue to show a fall in unemployment claims.  The current rate in the County is at 4.3%, dropping from 5% last month.  Washington County has over 11,500 people in the workforce.  Across all of southeast Iowa, unemployment rates dropped an average of a half percent.

Louisa County saw the largest decrease which dropped 1.1% while Henry County saw a slight increase one-tenth of a percent.  Compared to last year, unemployment figures are on average over 12 percent lower.

Overall, Iowa’s unemployment dropped to five point one percent, remaining three percent lower than the national figure.
