The Conference champs Washington girls golf team will play at their district meet today in Mt. Pleasant. The girls won their conference by 20 strokes last week at their home course. Head coach Len Kull said his ladies went to a meet on Friday in Williamsburg to get a preview of the toughest teams, and saw what a fight this district meet will be.
“That turned out to be a real slug fest, any score under 200 is above average, and if you’re under 180 your top flight in the entire state,” Kull said. “The scores for Grinnell were168, we had a 170, Mt. Pleasant had a 178 and Williamsburg had a 180. So that just shows that there were four excellent teams at that tournament and three of those teams will be at Mt. Pleasant today.”
No. 1 in the state Grinnell is in the other side of the district, so they will not affect the Demons in this round, but could at the Regional meet. Kull said his girls are playing very well right now, and that Mt. Pleasant is the one to focus on.
“I’m confident that we’re play at a very high level right now, and we’re confident that things are going well,” Kull said. “The people that we count on are mostly seniors that have had a chance to play at Mt. Pleasant.”
The District meet is in Mt. Pleasant today, and Washington will see many of the same teams of the conference.
Other Regional meets happening today are:
Mid-Prairie at Kalona and Columbus at Cedarcrest Golf Course, and IMS, WACO, WMU, Keota and Lone Tree all at Knoll Ridge golf course.
