A unique fundraiser is being held in Mt. Pleasant next week.  The American Cancer Society is having a special Relay for Life at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility.  American Cancer Society Senior Communications Relations staff person Kierstan Peck says the event is the only one of its kind in the U.S., and likely the world.  This is the sixth consecutive year that the women’s unit has participated, and the fifth for the men’s.  Peck says the week’s funds raised totaled $29,000 thousand dollars, and this year the inmates will be looking to raise more.

One new addition to the week’s schedule is the first ever appearance at the fundraiser by Iowa Department of Corrections Director John Baldwin.  The center will have money-raising activities Wednesday through Friday, and precedes the Henry County Relay for Life on Saturday.
