The Washington Public Library is hosting two events this afternoon.  Library Director Patrick Finney says Friends of the Washington Public Library and the Washington Free Public Library Association are presenting a short piano concert by Virginia Bordwell.  Bordwell will be playing patriotic piano pieces which will be followed by a lecture and slide show about the Battleship USS Iowa.

Finney says the USS Iowa was involved in the Battle of Santiago Bay in 1898.  He adds the USS Iowa was the first sea-going battleship in the US Navy that took part in the Spanish-American War.

Finney says John Vogt will be giving a presentation that includes veterans’ eyewitness accounts with period images detailing the participation of the US Navy in the battle at Santiago Bay.  These events are free and take place on the 2nd Floor of the Washington Public Library today beginning at 1:30.
