The Iowa House of Representatives passed a bill Friday overhauling the state’s collective bargaining law as well as the negotiating rights for workers.  This bill would make state workers pay at least $100 a month toward their health care and would not allow them to negotiate layoff procedures.  Republican Senator Sandy Greiner from Keota says she does not think the bill will be taken up for discussion this year in the Senate.   She adds that she would be surprised if the bill comes up for discussion next year.

Senator Greiner says from her perspective, the “bill is dead upon arrival” when it reaches the Senate.  When asked if there would be a backlash in Iowa like what is seen in Wisconsin, Senator Greiner says there are enough votes in the Senate to stop the bill and protests won’t reach the same level as Wisconsin.

The House passed the collective bargaining law bill along party lines 58 to 38 with four representatives not voting.
