The Washington County Riverboat Foundation recently announced its Competitive Grant Awards for the fall of 2010. WCRF Board President, Tim Putney says the grants are for projects around the area that will serve diverse and important needs. Some of the larger grants awarded were $40,000 for the HACAP renovation of Orchard Hill; $63,500 to the City of Riverside for a new trail system; and $328,500 to Washington County for secondary roads improvements. 5 local school districts also received grants for various projects.

Highland Community Schools received $35,000 for the district wide Promethean Adoption
Washington Community Schools received $25,000 for the softball field dugouts and press box
The Washington Community Y received $21,480 for the first floor renovation
Immanuel Lutheran Church received $20,000 for pavement for the parking lot
Waco Community Schools received $19,800 for a portable wireless lab
St. James Catholic School received $17,816 for the phase 2 of kitchen upgrades
The Kalona Historical Society received $17,800 for Washington County History Preservation
The City of West Chester received $17,200 for tile drainage improvements
The Washington County Pork Producers received $7,500 for a pork promotion grilling trailer
Mid Prairie Community schools received two grants, the first was for $6,835 for instruction through technology and the second was for $6,100 for Wellman Elementary technology
Washington Chapter NSDAR received $4,795 for the repair of the Alexander Young log house
Keota Fire Department received $4,795 for emergency lighting
Paws and More received $4,144 for kennel replacement
Keota Community Schools received $4,000 for technology for Our Youth
Highland Community Schools received $3,000 for a Virtual Reality Pilot Program
The Washington Chamber of Commerce received $1,519 for their conference room completion
