A convicted killer who escaped from a Missouri jail and had ties to Sigourney is back in custody. Yesterday a representative from the Keokuk County Sheriff’s office told KCII that 57-year-old Carlos Sarmiento, a former resident of the Sigourney area had escaped from a Missouri jail. While there was no reason to believe that Sarmiento was heading to Iowa they wanted to let residents know about the escape. This morning a Daviess\ DeKalb County Regional Jail official says Sarmiento and fellow escapees 34-year-old Timothy J. Baudour and 26-year-old Nicholas D. McCleary were caught yesterday. The men broke out of the Daviess/DeKalb County jail Sunday night by crawling under a fence in the recreation area. Sarmiento was awaiting sentencing for beating his roommate to death with a hammer.
