The trial of Washington resident James Blum, who told authorities he smothered his wife to death after she backed into their garage door, has been delayed until next year, the second such delay in the last three months. Washington County Attorney Barb Edmondson says ethics rule prevent her from discussing a pending case, but adds that the continuance was granted “against her wishes.” Edmondson says she feels the case “should not have been extended” and could have been ready for the October trial. The second-degree murder trial is now slated for January 4th, a week shy of the one year anniversary of the death of the defendant’s wife, Patricia Blum. James Blum was arrested after his wife was found unresponsive in the couple’s East Washington Street home. She later died at a hospital.
