Two rounds of strong thunderstorms hit Southeast Iowa yesterday and early this morning and they brought more heavy rainfall to the area. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for the west half of Washington County and for Keokuk County at 2:30 p.m., and those thunderstorms brought nearly an inch of rain to Washington. Showers and thunderstorms came back to the area from the early evening and into the early morning hours once again, and a Flash Flood Warning was issued for Washington, Jefferson, Henry and Keokuk Counties at 8:50 p.m, and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 9:45 p.m. Over 1.75 inches of rain fell in Washington yesterday. The National Weather Service advises drivers to avoid driving into flooded roadways and instead take an alternate route.
