press play to hear from At Large Councilor Karen Wilson-Johnson
Mark is being replaced by Luke. The Washington City Council last night approved a new garbage and recycling contract with Luke’s Sanitation. The lone no vote was from 1st Ward Councilor Bob Shepherd. He expressed concern because the city does not require a performance bond and because they are unfamiliar with Luke’s. At Large Councilor Karen Wilson Johnson says Luke’s provides the city with significant financial savings. She points out that Mark’s was once in the same position as Luke’s. Luke’s proposal came in about 70-thousand dollars lower than Mark’s. It also includes the tipping fee for Washington’s two city wide cleanups. Mark’s does not. The three year contract starts at the end of this month.
