The Washington Demons have moved one game away from the girls state basketball tournament. The Demons went to Mount Pleasant Saturday and beat Kekouk 51-39. Keokuk led for a very short time in the first quarter but that would be the only time they had a lead in the game as the two teams were tied 9-9 at the end of one and the Demons led 26-19 at the half. One of the things that worked in favor of the Demons in the second quarter was the Chiefs were able to throw over the Demons press but missed some open layups which the Demons rebounded and turned into points. Demon rebounding and some big buckets were key in the Demons win as again 51-39 was your final. For Washington Cassey Sobaski ended up with 16 points and 7-7 from the free throw line. Lucy Libe had 12 points and hit two threes including a big one in the fourth. Sydney Greiner and Caitlin Fishback each had 8 points. The Demons are now 18-4 and will face Davenport Assumption tomorrow night for the right to go to the state tournament. Assumption beat Williamsburg 52-50. Tomorrow’s game will be in Muscatine.
