Shirley (age 68) passed away Thursday, Jan. 21 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Shirley Ann Kinsinger Van Egdon was born in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Earl and Etta Pearl Richards Kinsinger.
She graduated from Belmont High School, Los Angeles, CA and from Los Angeles City College. Shirley was a professor with a teaching certificate from UCLA.
Shirley and Gregory Van Egdon were married on July 13, 1963 in Los Angeles. The lived in California for a number of years before moving to Kalona.
Shirley was a member of Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona United Methodist Women, Order of Eastern Star, Kalona Alpha Club, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Farm Bureau of Johnson County, Heritage Agency on Aging and American Assoc. of Dental Assistants. Shirley was active in church where she served as Education Chairperson. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout Den Mother.
Her special interests were spending time with her granddaughter, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, giving advice, crafts and sending special cards to friends and family.
A memorial in her honor has been established for KUMC youth activities.
Shirley is survived by her husband Gregg of Kalona, her daughter, Heidi and husband Craig Morrison, of Kalona her son Kenneth Van Egdon and his partner Joe Mosher of Iowa City. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Annie Pearl Morrison and her aunt Marguerite Kinsinger of Wellman.
Shirley’s family is most grateful for the many condolences, prayers and other kindnesses bestowed on them during this time of sudden loss. May God Bless each of you.
