It’s been a little more than half a year since Iowa’s free health insurance program for children was expanded and a local social worker says enrollment is up. Jen Weidman with Washington County Public Health says she’s also had more people inquire about Hawk-I. Iowa’s version of the S-CHIP program was previously based on a family’s gross income. It’s now based on 300 percent of the poverty line.
