“To have it on your floor, the last regular season game of the year, for all of the marbles, it’s like it was just a book, someone is writing the movie version of it.”

That was how Demon head girls basketball coach Phil Long described tonight’s championship game with Mt. Pleasant.

In a rivalry that dates back longer than most can remember, Mt. Pleasant and Washington have disliked each other in sports.

Tonight, they battle for a conference title at Washington.

The Demons who have struggled with offense had to fight through an overtime win against Mid-Prairie on Tuesday to get the win.

They are now 12-7 and shooting 32 percent from the floor and scoring 42 points per game. Lauren Kimball leads the way with 141 points.

The Panthers are 13-7 and are shooting 41 percent from the floor and scoring 43 points per game. They are led by the pair of Taryne Shull with 215 points and Kelsi Phipps with 202 points.

Long said tonight’s game is about playing Demon ball for 32 minutes and maybe more.

“I really think the depth of our bench and if we keep running the floor, throwing it ahead and ahead, and at the same time keep a lot of pressure on our guards that’s going to be the key to the game,” Long said. “Once again we are who we are, we’re going to come play you 94 feet for 32 minutes and hopefully that is enough.”

The last time these two teams played it was decided by three points in overtime.

Tonight they play for a conference title at Washington at 8. You can hear it right here on AM and FM KCII with pregame at 7:30 and tip-off at 8. The one to count on for today’s local sports coverage is AM and FM KCII.
