Posted: May 31, 2012 @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News
The dry weather we’ve had the past month has left producers with a number of issues including Rootless Corn Syndrome. Field Agronomist with the Johnson County Extension Jim Fawcett explains that the dry weather has caused the ground to crack, that exposes roots and causes their deterioration.
He adds that farmer’s planters could have contributed to the disease by compacting the soil. Fawcett notes that cultivating could help, along with the rain we received last night plus the rain we are forecasted to receive today will help the crops rebound.
