Iowa’s 2010 legislative session starts today. At the center of lawmaker’s focus: the budget. The Hawkeye State has not been immune to the economic downturn and legislators from southeast Iowa like Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz and Riverside Representative Larry Marek say making government as efficient as possible is a top priority. Cutting costs won’t be the ultimate fix. Lawmakers also need to find a way to increase revenue.
