English, Skunk and Iowa Rivers on Impaired Waters List

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources submitted its impaired waters list to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The list includes the English River in Washington County, the North Skunk River in Keokuk County and the Iowa River in Louisa County are category 5 impairments needing Total Maximum Daily Load calculations. Also on the list is Lake Darling. Bodies of water are placed on this list when monitoring finds that pollutant levels prevent the body of water from attaining its beneficial uses which include human recreation, water supply and maintaining healthy aquatic life. The total number of impaired waters on the state’s list is 479.
